Working at this year's LAABF was quite different than last. First, we had a better spot and the designer of the layout set us up alongside the Hammer and MOCA's tables. We however, had two tables which enabled us to spread out and showcase our unique collection of out of print, ephemera, in print, LACMA catalogues and posters. Since we were in a passageway, the poster display really slowed people down to stop and look at our wares. Turrell's catalogue and poster was a big hit amongst the larger public. The delightful and whip smart Hamza Walker from the Renaissance Society who is also co-curating the next Made in L.A. stopped by. Other noteworthy guests to our booth include Thurston Moore, Ben Lee Ritchie Handler, Alice Konitz and Massimiliano Gioni from the New Museum. What impressed me the most this year was the even stronger sense of diversity not only with what book and zine dealers were offering but also the music stage and events that tied everything together into a giant, 4 day festival. Unfortunately, I was not able to steal away to the Classroom but from what I could tell, most events there were also packed. Coming back to our store at LACMA is always a little tricky to get the merchandise back onto the shelves. But, it's perfect timing because now our website is officially up and we are running full throttle at 8 cylinders.
