Since 1989, Melanie Smith has lived and worked in Mexico City. In that time, through social interaction which produces photographs and prints, Smith has "explored the relationship between certain aspects of pictorial abstraction and the way these can involuntarily reflect the growth of cities, their dynamics and their visual agitation." 

This catalogue was published to accompany the artist's installation at the Mexican Pavillion 54th Venice Biennale in 2011. Contributions by Jose Luis Barrios, Helena Chavez Mac Gregor, Paola Santoscoy, Tatiana Cuevas,
