James Turrell: Geometry of Light was edited by Ursula Sinnreich and contains essays by Gernot Bohme, Julian Heynen, and Augostino de Rosa. It was published for the exhibition at the Zentrum fur Internationale Lichtkunst, in Unna, Germany.

No one who has experienced an installation by James Turrell forgets the encounter. His entire body of work is dedicated to the exploration of the many facets of natural and artificial light. At the heart of this book is a group of works, Sky Scapes, developed by Turrell over the course of his career. Academic, philosophical and art history essays explain the development and significance of these perceptual spaces.

As an undergraduate, Turrell (born in Los Angeles in 1943) studied psychology and mathematics, transitioning to art only when he went into graduate school. A practicing Quaker, one of his earliest memories is of his grandmother inviting him to "go inside and greet the light" at a Quaker meetings.
