Carl Andre: Black Wholes.
Softcover, 64 pp., 39 illustrations, 30 x 21 x 0.5 cm, Kunsthalle Basel, Basel, 2005.
This rare exhibition catalogue for Carl Andre BLACKWHOLES at the Kunsthalle Basel from June 16th through September 18, 2005, is a deceivingly concise approach to Carl Andre's sculpture and poetry. Seen as words printed on paper and hung on the wall, Andre's poems are objects unto themselves.
When viewed in the same context as Andre's arranged, low, floor sculptures, the word patterns evoke a similar building arrangement to the sculptures. Thus, the poems are visual and linguistic clues, tied to the sculptures exhibited in Carl Andre BLACKWHOLES as a language of the artist's own creation.
