Gabriel Orozco: Corplegados and Particles (2011)
Essay by Benjamin H.D. Buchloh
Published by Marian Goodman Gallery, New York
This book was published on the occasion of an exhibition by the same name held at Marian Goodman Gallery, New York in 2011. For this exhibition Orozco presented two new major bodies of work, first the Corplegados, a series of large format drawings realized over the course of a number of years. Literally "folded bodies," the papers were folded up and taken on Orozco's travels amassing layers of paint, collage and drawing over time. In the second series—the Particle paintings—Orozco used found photographs, news clippings, works from art history, and digitally deconstructed the images based on a grid, divided in dots on top of which Orozco painted new layers of dots. The result creates pulsations of color.
