The Prometheus Archives: A Retrospective Exhibition of the Works of George Herms was organized by Betty Turnbull with an introduction by Thomas H. Garver.

The Prometheus Archives was produced in conjunction with the retrospective that first exhibited at the Newport Harbor Art Museum, Newport Beach, CA from June 2 - July 22, 1979. It then moved to The Oakland Museum, Oakland, CA from August 14 - September 30, 1979, and concluded at the Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, WA from November 15, 1979 - January 6, 1980.

A pioneer of the art movement known as "California Assemblage," George Herms has had a prolific career spanning over fifty years, transforming cast-off and mundane objects into intricate sculptural works of art. The Prometheus Archives is a catalogue that surveys the artist's first twenty years of production.
