John Baldessari: Arms & Legs (Specif. Elbows & Knees), Etc. (2008)
Hardcover
49 pages
In his essay for this catalogue, Régis Durand explores the synesthetic dimension of Baldessari's fragmented inventory of body parts on bright-colored backgrounds, echoing Bach's fugues and preludes. Like melodic fragments, those body parts form an incomplete anatomic score. With those incomplete images, the spectator is invited to fill tin the interpretive gap—to draw his own story over those suggestive pictures.
