Maria Nordman: De Theatro (1996)

 Ringbound, 88 pages ; translucent vellum pages,  8.25 x 12 inches

Maria Nordman has enriched contemporary sculpture in significant aspects by working - since the mid-1960s - with walk-in works in parks, streets, buildings. In her architectural spaces, she refers to urban reality and everyday life as well as to the reactions of passers-by and viewers. She uses sounds and daylight as design elements. For the artist, natural light in particular is her primary »plastic material«. In the manner in which Maria Nordman brings light to physical evidence, spatial experience becomes an individual, physical experience of time, and the usual rhythm of everyday life in industrial society is suspended for a while.
