Mungo Thomson's work is steeped in a postmodern mix of pop culture and lighthearted self-awareness, and that mix comes through in Thomson's Einstein #1. Einstein #1 is a curious little comic book in that it doesn't have any characters. What Thomson has done instead is take panels from famous cartoonists like Dave Gibbons (Watchmen) and Charles Burns (Black Hole), and re-drawn them without any of the figures. Instead, the reader fills the void created by the protagonists' absence, going on a fantastic voyage from a post-apocalyptic Earth to fantastic otherworlds.
