Edited by Matthias Haldemann for the Kunsthaus Zug and the Walter A. Bechtler Stiftung.

Zug and Zuoz are municipalities in Switzerland where James Turrell (b. 1943 in Los Angeles) created works of art. This book is devoted to the relationship between two contrasting works. At night, Light Transport immerses the internal space and glass roof of the Zug train station in different colors, while the Skyspace Piz Uter at the Hotel Castell in Zuoz is a plain, round structure made of stone, with a circular opening in its roof so that one can view the sky. In juxtaposition, these two works made evident the dichotomies explored in Turrell’s work - artificial vs. natural light, urban vs. natural settings, and color vs. darkness.
